My Place And Yours: Pink

My Place And yours has a new host, Danielle, and this week's theme is 'PINK. What part does pink play in your life?'
Actually, to be honest, it doesn't! Not much anyway. I think that girls either like pink or they don't - and I don't. There's very little to see around my house that is pink. My favourite colour is blue and that seems to be everywhere indoors..... not surprising really.
There is one thing in the house that's pink this week and that's my Mothers' Day present from my daughters.

These beautiful flowers. And if there's one thing I really do like in that colour (I can't keep repeating the word pink any more in this post!) it's flowers.

The tulips make me think that winter really is over and spring is just around the corner. They are very, very much appreciated. Thank you girls.

Sorry, but there's only one way to make more pink in my life, and that's to take multiple photos!

My Place And Yours: What I'm Reading

I could be Bookish and tell you I'm reading a classic novel   -  but Jane Austen is as classical as I get!
I could be Trendy and tell you I'm reading the latest Best-Seller -  but I always wait until they're in paperback and borrow them from my local Library. And I never read a book just because everyone else has!
So, what am I reading? It's a book I found on the shelf at work where staff leave books so that others can borrow them. It's a bit grubby on the cover and has obviously been read more than once, which is often a good sign, I think, that a book will be interesting. It's entitled 'Who Gets Fluffy?' and was written by Judith Summers. It probably did make the best-seller list in 2008 when it was published but it passed me by then. It travelled home with me yesterday, and I've only just finished the first chapter... but it's looking good...

a room without windows'

My Collection

Anyone can join in this Nosy-Parker's-Dream-Meme by leaving their link at My Place And Yours . This week's theme was chosen by Kate from Fox's Lane. Kate says 'I want to see a photo or photos of what it is that you collect. Then if you feel like it you could let us know what your collection rules are; Does it have to be green? Does it have to be from another country? Does it have to be second hand or a gift? Does it have to be old or complete?...What constitutes a collection for you? Is it more than three of the same thing? Is it rare things? Is your collection ongoing or is it complete? ...what's your story?'

I must admit that I don't really collect anything. With my husband having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) I cannot leave things around the house to gather dust and make more work for him. He cleans the house obsessively, infact the hoover is never put away, as he hoovers at least three times a day, having to do each room in a specific order! Under these restraints it's hard to collect items as I, like anyone else, would prefer my collection to be on show so that I could enjoy it.
But thinking more about this theme, I realised I do collect one thing, and that is Yankee Candles. I love their fragrances and often burn a candle whilst I'm crafting. My husband doesn't like candles, but knowing I like them so much, he does actually buy them for me sometimes.

I keep them, yes, in a cupboard, which smells gorgeous when I open it! I have just two candles on display. They are in the Lounge because they each have a tray and matching shade and are therefore decorative and 'acceptable' to Hubby. The rest are hidden away in the cupboard. I think I have over twenty candles of varying sizes and perfumes, and because I use them up, it's an ever-changing collection and will never be 'complete'.

Through The Front Door

This is my front door. Admittedly the photo was taken in 1998, but it hasn't changed at all. My Dad is older and so are the girls, but the door's the same mahogany stained wood, the red tiles still  lead you in and a pot of flowers usually stands in the porch. Not at this time of year though - it's too cold and exposed to leave a pot there - it would only blow over in the strong coastal winds!
Stepping through the front door there's a long hallway leading to the kitchen. The walls of the hallway are painted magnolia to brighten them up and behind the door I've hung a series of hand-painted plates, all painted by my father when he was still able to hold a fine brush without his hand trembling.
Beyond the front door it's always tidy and welcoming, kept that way by my husband - it's home.
If you would like to see through more people's front doors, head over to Meet Me At Mike's for My Place And Yours. It's always fun to be nosy and peep into other people's lives.
