Withdrawal Symptoms

Feeling down at the moment. I've not been able to craft at all this week and I really miss the relaxation I get from it. Also, broken down equipment at work piles on the stress. And DD2, Karen, leaves for University tomorrow. We've hired a van because she has soooo much stuff to take, but it's a two and a half hour journey to get there and I'm not looking forward to it. Not least because we'll have an empty nest when we get back home!
Both girls are gone now to start their adult lives. Of course it's what Mothers work towards every day we have our children with us, but it's hard to watch them strike out on their own. We'll miss them both dearly.

Jenni's favourite 'fun' photo

Sorry for the flash on the photos today but the light is fading fast this evening. This is a photo of  DD1,  Jenni, on Palace Pier, Brighton and it's one of her favourites. She was thrilled to be riding a huge motorbike - just a racing game you understand, not the real thing! And here's the scrapbook page I made with it some years later. The pull-out tag details who, when, and where. On the reverse is a quotation from the children's writer Roald Dahl - 'Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.'

Karen's idea of fun is very different, and of course, involves her camera! This double-page layout records an afternoon she and I spent on the beach at Peacehaven taking photos for a college project. She'll go any lengths to get a shot, hence her lying prone on the cold concrete walkway!

Well, I actually feel much better now, having spent time looking through my photo albums and posting these pages on the blog.

Tomorrow starts a new era for all of us. We will just have to remember to look for the magic!

  1. Blurgh. You're right, seeing 'em off and happy is all we strive for. And you have every right to need a bit of a wallow over your empty nest. They'll never leave you really tho' - you're friends. Love the LOs, great stories.

  2. Ah see, now I'm at the other end of the scale. Just yesterday OH and I pondered if our youngest would be our last and after realising that it meant at LEAST 14 more years of girly tantrums. I think we can safely say the answer is yes. We are at the 'when we are on our own we'll be able to do this and this ...' stage but at the same time my eldest is hitting teendom next year and that scares the poopoo out of me I can tell you ;)

I secretly can't wait to be a granny but at the same time don't want it to happen for a long, long time yet. I love that Roald Dahl quote - hadn't heard it before it's so lovely.

  3. LOve the LO's ...great memories to have and to hold on to... Think the first one is my favourite because of the colours but then ... I love the backgrounds of the DLO.
I expect your fledgelings will fly back after Uni ... if lacking in home comforts or money lol.
