WOYWW - How Much?

Here's my desk from Saturday. A bit messy, with the evidence of a crafting session, but not the results! The cards I made are in my previous post. But you can see my box with Cuttlebug bits and bobs, small dies mostly and the embossing mat. Alongside is a Xyron for putting glue onto papers and embellishments. There's my pink scoring board, ink pads, non-stick craft sheet and magnetic cutting board.
Looking at all the stuff on my craft table, and then the wider view as well......

...with even more crafty stuff on view, it makes me wonder just how much money I've spent over the years. I have two whole wardrobes of stash. Lately I've not bought anything, trying to save cash, but I'm astonished at the number of items I have actually collected!
My father still keeps a black book itemising everything he buys for the house. It goes back to what he had when he got married and moved into a rented house, right down to the cost of his hairbrush! And he still has that hairbrush at age 86. It makes very interesting and eye-opening reading at the cost of things years ago.
I think I would definitely be shocked at what I've spent on Stash if I'd done the same thing and kept a running total.

  1. I reorganised my craft room and I totted up the value of a dump bin full of block mounted stamps as over £1,000. It scared me as I also have more blockstamps and drawers of UMs besides all the gizmos, materials etc. I stopped there! I don't think most of us would be covered by household insurance if we lost it all, God forbid!

  2. Not a good idea to keep a total - I have a couple of loyalty cards for craft shops in the town and just looking at the number of stamps I collect for £5 and £10 spends sends me into shock and would probably polelax the poor OH. Do you have to tidy away everyday.?

  4. I know the feeling. I've just bagged up all my rubber stamps to sell as I no longer use them and most of them still have their price on. I have bagged them up for £10 a bag and know each bag hold double or more value in them! [and I had an awful lot of bags full!]. If you want any pop over to our shop blog.

  5. I always love to see what's on your desk :)

When we first married we kept a notebook with everything we bought for our little house we were decorating ourselves. It brings back great memories - but one going back a really long way like that would be a fantastic read. Do you think he would let you share a couple of old entries?

  9. Oooh, me too! I was getting a bit worried about the amount of stash I had, but looking round some of these blogs I'm just an amateur, so I wouldn't worry if I were you! That book of your father's sounds very interesting.

  10. One of these days I will be strong and resist the urge to buy. Even working at shows does not seem to stop me - I end up spending my earnings!
    Love my Cuttlebug.

  24. I keep all my receipts in a drawer for anything I spend on crafts. I keep everything, including when I buy alcohol for my backgrounds or sponges for my dye inks. So, if I wanted to, I could add it up, but since I'm not much for buying lots of stash, I fear it is far less than most WOYWWers spend. (#1)

  25. Nice busy looking craft table. I too shudder at the thought of the money I have spent over the years..not only is it in,on,under and above my desk, it is in one third of the wardrobe, under the bed and takes up half my linen cupboard!!
    Frightening! Dee (38)

  26. Hello Ann. This is my first visit to your blog and I am very impressed. I don't think about how much I have spent on craft stuff over the years but what I do know, is that my creations will live long after me and they have made a lot of people VERY happy. Now in my opinion, that is PRICELESS. *Ü* Go create. TFS. ~Glen~

  28. When I closed the shop we had our insurance re-assessed to account for my huge stamp collection (at the time about 4000 wood mounted) - needless to say I was hugely shocked by their value and number!! I love the wider view of your desk - and wonder if you're more aware of how much stash you have because you get it out and put it away each time - I think I've sort of stopped seeing mine now!

  29. I am constantly tormenting over how much stuff I have, so much of it unused. But I am always wanting to buy more. It is so hard to resist the temptation to shop.
I wouldn't even want to put a dollar value on my stash--I would just get more overwhelmed by the pressure to use it up.
