Ugly Papers

I have finally scrapped a page today, after weeks of a dry spell!
What tempted me back into the fray? A Challenge on The Studio Challenges Blog that asks you to use two 'ugly' papers in your layout. We all know there is no such thing as ugly papers, don't we? We are all paper addicts after all! But I'm sure, like me, you have a few patterns in your stash that you wish you had never bought. And it seems too wasteful to just throw them away. So I was inspired to use of a couple of my least favourite ones today, pictured below, along with a recent photo of my Mother.

I am usually a fan of K&Co but I cannot abide large patterns on scrapbook pages, hence the flowery paper, and the pink and brown one is just so ....well.....dull!
Anyway, here's the finished layout and the journalling says it all I think. It's a simple page with tearing and doodling and some cut circles. Oh, and a heart stamp.

I miss Mum as she used to be. Fiery and out-spoken. She is a shell of her former self now. I can see her but I do not know her any more.
Dementia is a cruel disease, but to be honest, I do not think she is aware of it herself and that is a blessing.

  1. What a lovely layout remembering your Mum as she was before dementia. We had a friend whose mother also had dementia and one of the things that helped him was understanding that she didn't know what she was like with dementia and remembering her as the Mum she had been. Thanks for sharing yours and good job with the "ugly" papers :)

  2. Ann, Loved the way you used your "ugly" papers. I know what you are going through, I did the same with my paternal grandmother. I'm very thankful that my mom's mother was 94 when she passed away and was sharp as a tack, which my mom who is 83 is taking after her. Hang in there!!

  3. I love how you have used these papers ...I have so many I just skip over when doing a LO and wonder what ever possessed me to buy them ....but consol myself , thinking that they must have been a bargain.

Putting that all aside ...I love the finished LO works so well ... the photo seems to show a sadness in her eyes and there is something in the LO that echos it. That all sounds deep but I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey.xx

  4. I'm glad that you were inspired by Amanda's challenge this week. You've done a lovely job with those papers and I admire you for scrapping a hard subject x

  5. You did a great job with your uglies! Glad the challenge could pull you out of your dry spell!

  6. Funny I adore that paper.
I also did a LO with ugly paper some time ago... but lately I've been weeding ugly paper out of my stash as I collapse old kits into my stash.
